Rick Kelliher joined Lafayette Rowing as Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Programs in 2012 after serving as Head Rowing Coach at the University of Vermont for a decade. During his tenure at Vermont, Rick grew the program from one that raced fours into a nationally- ranked competitive women’s eights program with 3 top-ten finishes at the Head of the Charles, four Grand Finals finishes at the New England Championships, and several first place finishes in regional championships defeating many Division I and III varsity-funded programs.

Ricks’ competitive coaching experience also includes U.S. National Team training and development centers and NCAA varsity programs. Under his leadership, Rick’s crews have medaled at the Canadian Henley, the U.S. Rowing National Championships, the Dad Vail Regatta, and the Head of the Charles, and made the final four at the Henley Royal Regatta

As an elite lightweight rower, Rick medaled in state and regional competitions, the Dad Vail and Head of the Charles regattas, and the US National Championships; competed at the US Olympic Festival; and participated in US Development and National Team Selection Camps.

“I’m looking forward to this unique opportunity to coach both the men’s and women’s programs,” said Kelliher. “Lafayette Rowing has a strong track record of working together and a history of success. My goal is to provide both a supportive training environment that attracts student athletes new to the sport of rowing, as well as an intense training, coaching and racing opportunity for the more experienced and focused rowers with the highest expectations.”
